Understanding Floor Shield's Coating Systems

Floor Shield's concrete coating systems are generally broken down into four different types: clear, solid color, flake, and quartz. Unlike basic coatings, our systems are made of several different component layers to create a thick, durable, and flexible barrier against the surface of your floors.

Our polyaspartic coatings all offer the same core benefits: they're tough, waterproof, flexible, UV stable, and easy to maintain. Different concrete coating systems are better for different applications and purposes, however. Read and see which one works best for you.

Clear System

Our clear system is perhaps the most basic of our systems. It's just several layers of our clear coating, cured to a hard, durable finish. This option is great if you already like the look of your flooring as it is but want to enhance its durability. Our clear system gives your floors a glossy finish but otherwise doesn't alter their appearance. In fact, its extreme durability and UV stability actually preserve the unique look of your floors, shielding them from abrasion and UV damage without yellowing, fading, or cracking.

Solid Color System

Our solid coat system is pretty similar to our clear system, only with color mixed in. Here's where things get fun if you're looking to update your floor's appearance! We can mix all kinds of colors to customize the appearance of your floors however you like. For that reason, they're really popular in commercial applications, being used in spaces like gyms, showrooms, restaurants, and more.

This system is called the "solid color" system because the base comes out as one solid color- pretty self-explanatory. However, your applicator can further customize it with unique designs, safety striping, and more, giving you free reign over how you want to decorate your floors!

Flake System

This one is our most popular concrete coating system across all installations. Our flake system starts with a color primer coat, then a layer of broadcast color flakes made from paint aggregate, topped off by a finish sealer for a colorful speckled look.

Flake system floors are visually striking and very durable, making them ideal for a lot of different areas and applications. The key thing about our flake system, however, is that the flakes give the flooring added slip resistance. This makes our flake system ideal for use in bathrooms, showrooms, gyms, locker rooms, garages, and other places where anti-slip flooring is a priority!

Quartz System

Quartz systems are very similar to flake systems, but with colored sand and tiny quartz granules in place of flakes. This makes for a very visually striking and colorful appearance that some people prefer to flake flooring, as it has a more crystalline, organic appearance. Additionally, the quartz layer provides even more slip resistance than just flakes alone, making them ideal for warehouses and outdoor flooring such as patios and pool decks.
